Billings and Beyond

Salt Lake City

Hello,

Billings was an early stop as we only had to drive six hours to get there from Bismarck. We are thankful for working cell phones as the google directions were not taking us to the right place. Long time residents can do a better job.

After spending a nice time visiting with the Hanson’s, yes the Hanson’s of Paul and Kay fame, we went to dinner and church. What a refreshing combination. Sometime in the later afternoon we talked about our projected route to SLC. Paul suggested we try to stay in Yellowstone and go on to Jackson, WY. There were no places to stay as no cancellations had materialized in spite of the lethal bear attack just a few days before. Rooms at Jackson appeared to be possible, but then evaporated into thin air. After watching, on the news, lines of cars waiting to get into Yellowstone, it seemed the more prudent idea would be to just drive some of the cross country roads and see a small slice of the park in this almost nine hour drive. We would even start early in the morning because we are morning people.

It was a beautiful cool morning with not so many people on the road. Are there only three other people driving somewhere? Until we ventured into UT that was true. Where did all these cars come from? Seemed that rush hour reaches quite a distance north of SLC. Fast and thick is the name of the game. Are we in Minneapolis?

One interesting scene: a police car was pushing another car. I had no idea they would perform that type of service.

Paula
